Teaser

As promised a quick teaser.

More rounds start hitting the enemy, coming from the guard position on top of the HQ building, and it's 7.62mm rounds from an M240B machine gun, so the enemy gets their heads down, and we finally get a good break from them. Five more guys from the platoon come over, one of them a squad leader, so he takes control and gets us together and puts out a plan. He says there's another gun team with a M240B going up to the secondary position on the HQ roof to lay down suppressive fire, and we're going to maneuver around to get up on the hill and take it back. My heart leaps in my chest just thinking of what could happen, but I nod my head in complience. Another mortar round lands in the COP south of our position, and like a signal the enemy on the hill opens up again. The 240 in the main position on the roof opens up and slows the enemy fire, but doesn't stop it completely. We wait a minute longer, holding out for the other 240 to start. When it does the squad leader gets us ready, and on the count of three we run in a staggered line, about 5 meters in between each man, to the wall at the base of the hill facing us. We skirt south along the wall to where it cuts east. There's an opening with stairs leading up the hill about 150 meters in, so we head to it, but stop about 5 meters short. If the enemy saw us run from the building to the wall, they will probably expect us to come this way, and as soon as we come through the opening we'll be cut down.

More to follow soon. Comments, critiques, opinions welcome.

Change is good (this time)

I've really found my new book fun to write. As my brother said in his blog dark genesis, kriley97.blogspot.com, it has started off pretty gritty. I'm on a "deeper" part of it now, but I'm about to hit the first part where the action really takes off. Unlike the other book I've been working on, this one is really action based, and I think it works well for me. I'm also trying a first person perspective. Overall I'm truly glad I changed to this book. I'll try and post a teaser by tuesday.
