As promised a quick teaser.
More rounds start hitting the enemy, coming from the guard position on top of the HQ building, and it's 7.62mm rounds from an M240B machine gun, so the enemy gets their heads down, and we finally get a good break from them. Five more guys from the platoon come over, one of them a squad leader, so he takes control and gets us together and puts out a plan. He says there's another gun team with a M240B going up to the secondary position on the HQ roof to lay down suppressive fire, and we're going to maneuver around to get up on the hill and take it back. My heart leaps in my chest just thinking of what could happen, but I nod my head in complience. Another mortar round lands in the COP south of our position, and like a signal the enemy on the hill opens up again. The 240 in the main position on the roof opens up and slows the enemy fire, but doesn't stop it completely. We wait a minute longer, holding out for the other 240 to start. When it does the squad leader gets us ready, and on the count of three we run in a staggered line, about 5 meters in between each man, to the wall at the base of the hill facing us. We skirt south along the wall to where it cuts east. There's an opening with stairs leading up the hill about 150 meters in, so we head to it, but stop about 5 meters short. If the enemy saw us run from the building to the wall, they will probably expect us to come this way, and as soon as we come through the opening we'll be cut down.
More to follow soon. Comments, critiques, opinions welcome.

Change is good (this time)
I've really found my new book fun to write. As my brother said in his blog dark genesis, kriley97.blogspot.com, it has started off pretty gritty. I'm on a "deeper" part of it now, but I'm about to hit the first part where the action really takes off. Unlike the other book I've been working on, this one is really action based, and I think it works well for me. I'm also trying a first person perspective. Overall I'm truly glad I changed to this book. I'll try and post a teaser by tuesday.

Changing ways
I have put the book I was working on on hold indefinetely. I had lost interest in it while I was too busy to work on it for about 2 weeks. On the bright side, a new idea popped up in my mind that I am now working with. The basic premise is WW3 from the perspective of a soldier in Afghanistan when it starts. It will be a Christian novel. Other then that I will get into more depth on as it progresses.

Taking away excuses
I have two main excuses that I have been using when I feel like I should be writing. One is time. I just never seem to have enough of it. When I do have a little time I am normally at work, which means I would have to use my cellphone or tablet to write. Using either of these for quick notes is great, but an extended amount of writing on them is terribly annoying. Until now. I made an investment for my writing, and bought a bluetooth keyboard that works with my tablet, and the case for it even doubles as a stand for my tablet. I just bought the keyboard two days ago, and I've already written more then I had since I started this novel. I am actually writing on it right now.
Since I have picked it back up, the book seems to be coming a lot easier. I am now able to visualize my characters, the landscape, and where the story is heading. It's all flowing a lot easier. The only problem with this so far, is that I am going to have to edit a lot of it. I am writing a lot faster, so I tend to make spelling and grammar mistakes more often, and there tend to be some things that just don't fit. As this is my first novel I don't feel too bad about this, which surprises me, since I tend to feel like I should quit anything I'm not perfect at right away.
The whole point of this, is that those of you who are ready to make excuses when something feels too hard, or you think it's not perfect, find a way to get rid of those excuses. You'll find that once you get a little momentum things will come faster and faster. Before you know it, you'll have a wonderful work of literature (atleast that's what I'm hoping for).

Busy Bee
So I've been a bit busy lately and haven't worked on the book in a few days. I've barely even thought about it, except to tell myself I need to work on it. Thankfully I don't have much to do today, besides church and laundry, so I'm going to set aside at least an hour this afternoon to work on it. My goal for today is to finish the first chapter, which I am only three paragraphs into so far. I have a good idea what all I want in the first chapter so it's just a matter of getting it down on paper. I'll post more after I work on it today.

Two minds are better then one
I've been trying to get word out about this blog, and so has my brother. I'm really needing to push myself to keep up on this and the novel itself, but my brother, Kevin, has proven invaluable. The old addage "Two minds are better than one" is proving itself true time and again. Not only has he helped with ideas for my novel, but surprisingly I seem to be helping him as well. Not to toot my own horn, but I feel we both have great minds for fiction, he's a lot better at getting it written out though. With his help I feel I'll actually be able to finish this book, I'm just not sure how long it will take.

The Beginning
Today I started writing a novel. I have started other novels before, but have never finished. I have put some things in place to ensure that I actually stick with it this time, including this blog. My novel is based in a post-apocalyptic world, after what they call the Great War. The main character is a 16 year old boy who is the son of the leader, known as the Teacher, of a small village. As his son he will take over when he is older, but he must go on a journey to the closest large city to speak with the priests there. Needless to say this is just a basic outline of the beginning. Many struggles will ensue, with a lot of awesome fights and supernatural experiences. As I get more done in my novel I will post small teasers from it.
